Antecedent.
The noun phrase that a pronoun refers to.
Article.
A determiner that marks definiteness “the” or indefiniteness (a, an).
Closed class.
A word class with fixed membership that rarely accepts new words.
Demonstrative.
A word that points to specific entities (this, that, these, those).
Determiner.
A closed-class word that introduces a noun phrase and specifies reference.
Indefinite pronoun.
A pronoun referring to unspecified entities (someone, everyone).
Interrogative pronoun.
A pronoun used in questions (who, what, which).
Object of preposition.
The NP that follows and completes a preposition.
Personal pronoun.
A pronoun indicating person, number, case, and (in 3rd person) gender.
Possessive.
A form indicating ownership; can be determiner “my” or pronoun “mine”.
Preposition.
A closed-class word showing relationships, taking an NP complement to form a PP.
Prepositional phrase (PP).
A phrase consisting of a preposition and its object NP.
Pronoun.
A closed-class word that replaces a noun phrase.
Quantifier.
A determiner indicating amount or quantity (some, all, many).
Reflexive pronoun.
A pronoun ending in “-self/-selves” that refers back to the subject.
